Plug in your Avatar

"Plug in your Avatar." I thought, what a great way to have me think about about the heli as my Avatar! Depending on what flight school, CFIs can start to sound alike ("Have a good rest of your day" or "Makes sense?").....But my CFI can sometimes say things that will stay with me for eternity....

Think Avatar not as a manifestation of a deity or a soul in bodily form on earth. Think Avatar as the icon representing a person in a video game. Then think of the James Cameron movie, "Avatar", where each Avatar is genetically matched with a human operator. Then use your imagination to project yourself as the aircraft/R22/R44/avatar while sitting in the right side (heli PICs seat). It is your brain and your body that activates the heli. Unlike the movie, there is no remote operator for the aircraft, although we are in the aviation era of drones and remote operators who "pilot" the drone.

Back to the Avatar. When I do plug into my Avatar, I feel the controlled cyclic inputs, smooth raising and lowering of the collective, the tiniest pressure of the cyclic and the slight movement of the collective, together with the corresponding pedal input.
